The CS38 Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue course is a five-day professional training program designed to equip

candidates with the skills and knowledge to safely access trees, operate at height, and carry out aerial rescues in line

with NPTC standards. The course runs the candidate through all of the relevant theoretical and practical aspects that

are required to gain the certificate of competence. The qualification is legally required for anyone performing aerial

tree work, ensuring safety and compliance.

Who is this course for?

​

      • This course is aimed at individuals who work in arboriculture or forestry and need to use the rope and

      harness system to access the tree canopies safely.

      • This tree climbing course covers the minimum requirements for a ground person working with a climber and

      conducting an aerial tree rescue

      • A successful completion of this course can significantly improve your job opportunities in amenity or utility

      arboriculture, forestry and ground works.

Course Format

​

      • Duration: 6 day

      • Assessment: 5 days training and 1 day Assessment

      • Awarding Body: NPTC Level 2 Certificate

Requirements

​

      • You must be 16 years old or over

      • No formal prerequisites

      • Be physically able to participate in climbing and training exercises

      • No previous climbing experience is needed

Course Content

​

      o Legislation - to be aware of legislation and safety guidelines pertaining to tree climbing

      o Risk assessment

      o Equipment - compliance with the legal requirements for inspection, record keeping, storage and

      transportation of equipment

      o Learn a series of tree climbing knots

      o To identify and establish secure anchor points

      o To be competent in climbing and rescue techniques

      o To be able to use ropes, prusiks and karabiners

      o To be able to perform aerial rescue in a safe and efficient manner

Certification

​

On completion of the course, successful candidates will be sent a City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Tree Climbing and

Aerial Rescue NPTC Level 2 Units 206/306 certificate.
