This course will cover the safe operation and maintenance of stump grinder machines. It has been designed to aid
candidates to maintain, prepare and operate a Stump Grinder. Candidates will be instructed to the level expected to
gain the competence in the City and Guilds Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of a Stump Grinder. The course content
also includes legislation and risk assessment.

Who is this course for?
​
• The course is suitable for anyone wanting to prepare, operate and maintain a stump grinder for the purpose
of removing unwanted tree stumps
• Anyone required to have a Certificate of Competence to use to a stump grinder machine in the workplace
Course Format
​
• Duration: 1 day
• Assessment: Complete a practical test with 1-2-1 verbal questioning
• Awarding Body: NPTC Level 2 Certificate
Requirements
​
• Must bring appropriate PPE
• You must be 16 years old or over
• No formal prerequisites
Course Content

• Health and safety requirements for operating a stump grinder
• Preparation and operation a stump grinder
• How to carry out a risk assessment on a stump grinder
• Preparing the equipment and site for stump grinder operations
• How to operate a stump grinder
• How to carry out maintenance on a stump grinder
Equipment requirements
​
• PPE:
o The Stump Grinder will be supplied by The Arborist Academy UK Ltd
o Chainsaw helmet ear and eye protection
o Gloves (EN381-7)
o Steel toe-cap boots with chainsaw protection
Certification
​
On completion of the course, successful candidates will be sent a City & Guilds Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of
Stump Grinders certificate from NPTC.
