Powered Pole Pruner/Saw

This Safe Use of a Power Pole Pruner course aims to allow current and potential powered pole pruner operators to

gain the industry-wide and accepted NPTC accreditation with an independent assessment to confirm safety and

competence. This qualification covers the ability to work safely, use a powered pole pruner, know relevant health &

safety legislation and industry good practice.

Who is this course for?

​

      • Ideal for candidates working in arboriculture, forestry, utilities, horticulture and woodland management

      • Inexperienced candidates may require longer than the stated guide times to fully understand the information

      supplied. It is an advantage for the attendee, if they already hold their CS30 Chainsaw Maintenance and

      Crosscutting certificate.

      • Anyone required to have a Certificate of Competence to use to a Powered Pole Pruner in the workplace

 

Course Format

​

      • Duration: 1 – 2 days depending on candidates experience

      • Assessment: Complete a practical test with 1-2-1 verbal questioning

      • Awarding Body: NPTC Level 2 Certificate

Requirements

​

      • Must bring appropriate PPE

      • You must be 16 years old or over

      • No formal prerequisites

 

Course Content

      • Safe working practices

      • Protective clothing

      • Maintenance, starting and pre-use checks

      • Practical demonstrations and safe use

      • Safe working area, hazard analysis

      • Emergency planning

      • Removing overhead limbs

      • Storage/transport

      • Legislative issues

      • Environmental issues

 

Equipment requirements

​

      • PPE:

​

            o Type C chainsaw trousers

            o Chainsaw helmet with ear and eye protection

            o Gloves (EN381-7)

            o Steel toe-cap boots

 

      • Equipment

​

            o Pole pruner/saw

            o Fuel and oil

            o Maintenance kit

            o Filing kit suitable for the chainsaw

 

If you are providing equipment, please ensure that the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act and any

relevant regulations are met.

Current Forestry England guidelines also require Forestry and Chainsaw workers to carry a Mandatory Personal

Forestry First Aid Kit, which includes a Haemostatic Bandage, Application Tourniquet and Whistle, at all times.

 

Certification

 

On completion of the course, successful candidates will receive a certificate from NPTC.
