The NPTC Level 2 Unit 307 (formerly CS40) will equip you with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to
perform safe aerial tree pruning, and you will work to industry standards in line with current legislation.
You will learn all about emergency planning, risk assessment, legislation, industry best practice, tree conditions,
pruning techniques, and aerial pruning.

Who is this course for?
​
• This is an advanced course for tree surgeons who already hold their CS30,31,38 & 39 qualifications
Course Format
​
• Duration: Typically 2 days training & 1 day assessment
Requirements
​
• Candidates must be of 16 years of age or older
• Must bring appropriate PPE
• Be physically able to participate in 3 days of climbing
• Successfully completed NPTC CS30, CS31, CS38, CS39

Equipment Requirements

• Top Handled Chainsaw Climbing helmet with visor and ear protection
• Chainsaw Trousers (Type C, Class 1)
• Suitable chainsaw boots
• Chainsaw gloves
• Rescue knife and large dressing bandage (if possible)
• Two tree climbing ropes (37-45m)
• Tree climbing harness
• 4 x Prussik Loops
• 7 x Karabiners including 3 x oval
• 1 x 13mm split tail 5 metres
• 1 x Positioner x 1 pair climbing spikes
• 1 x Throw line and throw weight
• 1 x Anchor sling
• 1 x Multi saver Tool Loop
• Foldable hand saw
All equipment must be either less than 6 months old or have passed a LOLER check, evidence of this will be required on the first day. If you are providing equipment, please ensure that the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work
Act and any relevant regulations are met.

Current Forestry England guidelines also require Forestry and Chainsaw workers to carry a Mandatory Personal
Forestry First Aid Kit, which includes a Haemostatic Bandage, Application Tourniquet and Whistle, at all times.
Certification
​
On completion of the course, successful candidates will be sent a City & Aerial Tree Pruning NPTC Level 3 Unit 307
(CS40) certificate.
